Why Worry? — Weekly Devotional

 Hi, Controversial Readers!

This is Melody Polar bringing you this week's devotional! I hope that it will help bring peace to your life this week.

Worry. Fear. Anxiety. They impact our lives, our minds, our decisions, and even our health.

In this devotional, I want to look at two questions: Should we be afraid? And how do we combat fear?

Should we be afraid?

No! We should not! In Philippians 4:6, the Apostle Paul, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us to “be anxious for nothing.”

Those are pretty clear instructions. We aren't supposed to be anxious. Ever. About anything.

So that test that is coming up? Don't worry about it. The news about the wars in Ukraine and Gaza? Don't worry about it. The blood test that the doctor ordered? Don't worry about it.

And do you know why we shouldn't worry? Why we shouldn't be afraid? I’ll give you a hint. Check out this verse: Joshua 1:9

Do you have the answer? God is with us! We shouldn't be afraid because the Lord our God is with us!

But do you know what? Christians still worry. We are human, and when trouble comes up, a human’s instinct is to worry.

So how do we combat fear?

Remember that first verse we looked at? The one that commanded us to “be anxious about nothing”? Well, Philippians 4:6 also gives us the solution to our worry problem. It continues, saying, “In everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made to God.”

So our tool to combat fear is prayer! When we pray, we give our troubles to God! And He listens to our prayers and gives us a peace surpassing human understanding (Philippians 4:7).

So let’s stop worrying! Worry and fear are not the answers to our problems. Prayer is!

Let’s Pray:

Lord,

The troubles in this world can be overwhelming. Help me to trust you when I become anxious. And Lord, please help me to remember to pray the next time my mind begins to fear something. Lord, please help me to kick the worry habit.

In Jesus' Name,

Amen
