Static Serenity - Daily Controversy #21

Hi, readers!

My name is Jack Cuison and I’m bringing you today’s Daily Controversy. If you didn’t already know, the Daily Controversy is a topic we post almost every day made for being debated over. These usually revolve around theology, writing, music, literature, and sometimes sports. Today, however, I’m taking a slightly different approach.




While I write today’s controversy, I will be listening to white noise. If you don’t know what white noise is, the dictionary defines it as: 


A steady, unvarying, unobtrusive sound, as an electronically produced drone or the sound of rain, used to mask or obliterate unwanted sounds, especially in electronic communications and recording.



Put simply, white noise is like the gentle hum of a fan or the sound of TV static. It’s a steady, consistent sound that blends all frequencies together, making it perfect for blocking out other noises or creating a calming atmosphere for sleep or focus. Imagine it as a soothing background noise that helps you relax or concentrate without any distracting peaks or valleys. So, whether you’re studying, sleeping, or just need a moment of peace, white noise is there to help create a serene environment.



And that’s today’s controversy! The question is:

Is listening to white noise beneficial?



I’m not going to add any further background information or the two sides of this debate, since it’s a more opinionated argument. But I would advise you all to listen to the playlist below if you are still unsure of what white noise is or if you just want a soothing brain massage (that’s my opinion; share yours in the comments!)

  1. Oh, I like most colors of noise, including white noise. My favorite, however, is pink noise. The only one I wouldn't suggest is the violet noise. But I just did discover colors of noise, and I find it extremely relaxing and it also helps me focus when I am writing.

  2. I used to listen to white noise falling asleep on my Alexa, but now I do brown noise. I like brown noise wavelength better, it's not so high-pitched.

  3. I hate white noise, for me it is a constant noise that doesn't change and it bothers me. I will go out of my way to not listen to white noise. Doesn't matter what the color is, it's all super annoying and boring.

    2. I can't stand being in the same room as it for more than like 5 minutes. I've tried just to see, it drives me crazy.

    3. Well short story here: my sister used to play Classical mpr and our CD player and both fans and brown noise all at once. I hated it, especially the brown and white noise. but then after a few years of all that rucus, I learned to enjoy it. Fortunately, it's now down to ONLY brown noise.

  5. Hey I am Melody's little bro. White noise is simply, just noise. It could be possibly feeding our minds eerie distractions. Although that is just my opinion.

  7. I like brown noise while deep reading or studying, lyrics mess up by focus (my ADD brain can't focus anyway XD) Thanks for the controversy Jack!

  8. I love white noise. I listen to it to go to sleep. It helps my brain calm down, and blocks out all the other noise in my house. I have yet to listen to the other noises, but I want to.
